No longer, thanks to the book "Half American: The Epic Story of African Americans Fighting World War II at Home and Abroad," which gives a detailed look at the dual battle Black service members waged, fighting fascism overseas and racism back home. Missing from most of those narratives, though, have been the crucial contributions of more than one million Black Americans who served in the war.
